CARLY SABEL

GRADUATION WITH LEADERSHIP DISTINCTION IN GLOBAL LEARNING

Hello!

My name is Carly Sabel and I am a senior at the University of South Carolina (USC) studying International Business and Operations and Supply Chain Management with a minor in Spanish. I am pursing the Graduation with Leadership Distinction in Global Learning track. Within the International Business major, I am a part of a select group of students chosen to study abroad in an exchange program with the Facultad de Economía y Negocios – Universidad de Chile and the Darla Moore School of Business at USC.

During my nine months abroad, I immersed myself in the Chilean culture and fell in love with the Spanish language. In addition to this opportunity advancing my lifelong dream of becoming fluent in Spanish, I was able to study the interconnectivity of the North and South American markets and the inner workings of the Chilean economy. Studying abroad gave me the experience to take the concepts from my classes and apply them in a real-world context and navigate a new culture on my own. My time abroad deepened my passion for the Latin American culture. It has made me want to pursue a career that allows me to work closely with Latin American branches of a company or become an Environmental, Social, and Governance Consultant.

In this eportfolio, I will talk about three Key Insights I have gained from my experiences beyond the classroom and connect them with concepts from classes I have taken at USC. These insights reflect on the effects of institutions on society, the economic power of climate change, and a breakdown of Chilean culture. The leadership section outlines my plan to increase the utilization of resources to recycle plastics, implement eco-friendly alternatives in schools, and improve state legislation.
